UK Biobank, a large-scale biomedical database and research resource based in Stockport, has taken over 10,000 sq. ft of new office space in Orbit Development’s Park Square to facilitate the organisation’s ongoing growth plans.

UK Biobank’s database contains genetic, lifestyle and health information from half a million UK participants, and is globally accessible to approved researchers who are undertaking health-related research that’s in the public interest.

Its research resource is a major contributor to the advancement of modern medicine and treatment, enabling a better understanding of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnesses.

The move into Park Square follows a period of rapid recent expansion which has prompted a fresh look at the working environment for its valued staff.

Park Square will now provide high quality, modern and flexible office space to accommodate UK Biobank’s team of over 90, with additional meeting rooms for ongoing collaboration and ample parking – one of the company’s top priorities.

Based on Bird Hall Lane in Cheadle Heath Park Square is one of South Manchester’s landmark campuses, boasting a 150-seat newly-refurbished cafĆ©, Peloton wellness studio, 100 person conference suite and plenty of outdoor space forĀ  a range of employee activities.

Commenting on the move, John Busby, Chief Operating Officer at UK Biobank said: ā€œMoving into Park Square has not only provided our team with the kind of accommodation you would expect of a global database and research business, it has freed up space in our existing premises, which will continue to house our biosample storage, laboratories and imaging centre. So we are delighted with the outcome.ā€

On Orbit’s support throughout the move John added: ā€œWe enjoyed working with the team at Orbit, who were responsive and helpful in looking at a number of options and getting us moved in. We got a real sense that they wanted to build a community at Park Square and invest in it, which is brilliant to see.ā€

Rhys Owen, Regional Leasing Director for Orbit Developments, added: ā€œUK Biobank were keen to ensure staff returned to an environment fit for the modern biotech business and the changes currently underway on site are really appreciated. Having modern, well specified office space was clearly very important to them as were the wider facilities. It was a pleasure to work with John and his team and we wish them every success.ā€
