More than 100 keen hikers raised thousands ofpounds for East Cheshire Hospice in this year’s Hike the Hillevent.

Walkers were greeted by hospice mascotSunny the Dog as they assembled at Tegg’s Nose Country Park for theannual fundraiser on Sunday, September 14, which was again kindlysponsored by Orbit Developments.

Events fundraiser Nicola Burn said: “It was afantastic day. The weather was perfect for hiking with sun and abreeze to keep people cool as they covered hill tops and walkedthrough wooded glades. We are on track to raise more than£8,000.”

Starting from the Macclesfield beauty spot, walkers had a choice of routes according to experience andfitness.

Nicola said: “The hardiest hikers set off at8am on the 25km route which took about six hours of walking.”

“But just as popular was the 17km route, whichleft at 10am, and not to be left out, many families chose thetwo-hour walk covering 4.4km, which left at midday.”

All the walkers arrived back at Tegg’sNose around 2pm where Sunny the Dog was again showing hisappreciation for every hiker’s efforts.

Nicola said: “At the end of the walk, wewere happy to serve a well-deserved barbecue from Mambo BBQ to allof the participants along with delicious treats donated by TheCooperative Food in Thornton Square. All the walkersenjoyed their picnic while watching live entertainment by TheSinger Takes It All contestant Will Connor.”

“We would like to thank everyone who tookpart, the volunteers who helped and Orbit Developments for theirsupport. Hike the Hill is a great day out for all the family and animportant event that raises vital funds for the Hospice.” saidNicola.

Participants had paid a registration fee andalso been given a fundraising pack by the hospice to help them getsponsors for the walk, this along with the support from OrbitDevelopments ensured the day was a great success, raising vitalfunds for the Hospice.
